Here is some reviews from issue 5. I apologize in advance for the lack of correct grammar and punctuation. I was going through a rebellious phase. I did take the liberty of removing terminology that I found to be insensitive. The word FUCK remains because it just does. I will eventually go through these and edit them properly. In the meantime though, see you all on discogs later. Cheers, Gene Symptoms.
funeral forest
'hateful visions' cd funeral moonlight productions
cinematic music
from a dungeons and dragons inspired movie kicks things off here. i dont know
if this is good or bad but im leaning on the side of bad. for the most part i
think all that symphonic intro stuff is hokey and really just pisses me off and
has zero place in black metal [what's worse is they do it for track two and
three]. after several minutes we finally get to the true kvlt meat. total
french basement black metal that appears to revel in the filthy underground
style just as it should. pretty much just some basic doomy black metal that
keeps it morose and evil and somewhat sloppy. the bases are covered here satan.
your collection will not suffer without this disc despite it being pretty
decent. fuck symphonic intros and outros in the ass with god's dick. i swear
the outro is from conan the barbarian which would really be gay as fuck.
forgotten tomb
'negative megalomania' cd avant garde music
melodic doomy
death metal stuff that leads me to believe that the place where i do most of my
mail order business fucked up and sent me this instead of the usual frosty
goodness that im known to order. i fart in this band's fucking face. they want to be megadeth so bad that it's
giving them a.i.d.s. pinch harmonics are not allowed at my house bro.
genocide kommando
'black metal supremacy' cd moribund
french black metal
kvlt hellbent on keeping black metal true to form. 'black metal supremacy' is
an album that is content with being a face pounding dose of hatred without
innovation or steps forward. what this lacks in technical prowess makes up it
with pure satanic rage. a blackened
tornado of riffs and drums that never lets up while accompanied by total
throat slasher vokills. if you want some hate filled rants from the wilds of
france then get this album and feel the rage. with track titles like 'clouds of
human dust' or 'nuclear devastation' you know full well these dudes are not
fucking around at all.
abigail
'the early black years: 1992-1995' cd drakkar productions
now
this is what im talking about. japan strikes again with abigail. evil black
metal hymns blasting out of the wind tunnel with no melody or finesse. the
vokills are a truly disgusting thing to behold as yasuyuki pukes himself hoarse
for no good reason at all. the music is total beer soaked and scuzzy doom laden
black metal that pays a lo-fi tribute to the genius of old i.e. sodom bathory
etc. and does so with all the trademarks intact. completely fucking classic
metal guided by the beautiful hand of satan. once again japan shows the world up
when it comes to true metal blasphemy or to doing anything right.
evil
army 's/t' cd. hells headbangers
classic
old school thrash that sounds like it was dug up from the combat records
archives. unlike the corny retro thrash movement that is currently sweeping the
emo nation, evil army dishes out punishment in the fine tradition of bands such
as possessed, kreator and dark angel without a trace of irony. songs about
death, war, insanity, satan and serial killers delivered with furious beats,
shredding guitar [the solos rule hard] and vicious vokills. these dudes aren't
in it for the cash, evil army is a band of true believers who are holding the
thrash metal flag high and proud. true metal madness right here fuckers.
werewolf
jerusalem 'the flies of our tragic dear' cd. breathing problem productions
holy
fuck. total suffocating burial from the sweaty ruins of texas. the crumbling
death that you will be assaulted by is a fevered hungry animal. there are brief
yet unpredictable moments of smarmy quiet. almost a savoring of the kill if you
will. you've been caught but your death is teased relentlessly. the torture
never ends it would seem. your pulse stops when this disc stops. you want harsh
faceless audio murder? get your face caved in right here.
an
innocent young throat cutter 'death on the edge of a razor' c-20. turgid
animal.
more
of that harsh texas sleaze from the legendary richard ramirez. first thing i
noticed was that this one seems like it isn't as loud as i would like it to be.
despite that minor distraction what you find within is a very dense blast of
static. a hot pissy wind of rage that does little to disguise the lack of
remorse. just turn it up loud and fuck something and indulge in the darkness of
a texas styled wall bearing down on you.
body
collector 'the most holy death' cdr. brise-cul.
feed
back and a faceless mindless destruction gives way to a thorough sandblasting
that doesn't stop till you drop. fairly run of the mill but goddamn it's loud
as hell and harsh as fuck. worthy.
wapstan
'wanderers' 3inch. brise-cul.
a
single 20 minute piece that is a grim fog accompanied by a morose distress
signal beckoning you within a depressive sphere. get stoned and go for a walk
through the bad part of town..
wapstan
'temps de glace' cdr. brise-cul.
deadly.
all encompassing. smothering. grim. from the moment this disc starts you get
swallowed into a catacomb of loud as fuck nothingness. low end rumble that
feels like it's squeezing your brainstem. pissy hiss and a heartbeat of audio
slime. wapstan takes it to a new low with this dastardly 4 track collection of
remorseless stomach curdling doomnation. always appropriate for pot smoking
sessions in the walk in cooler while wearing corpse paint.
amitt
'hammer of darkness' cd.
filthy
evil 3rd world metal from this long running cadre of devil worshippers. south
american black thrash metal that is total ghastly lo-fi hymns to satan. light
your candles. drink your beer. smoke your weed. get thrashed. absolutely
ripping hatred.
josh
lay 'worm terrain' c-20. husk records.
another
deep descent into oblivion from a true kult master. josh lay's work is always
dark. cavernous. devoid of hope. masterfully crafted cathedral of hellish gloom
that will warrant repeat listens.
oath
'faith against faith' c-31. husk records.
true
basement metal. old school as fuck. vocals up front all angry and echoey. music
off in the distance pounding away. venom on bathtub crank. support the true.
dead
mountain 'desperately seeking satan' c-31. husk records.
the
usbm movement continues to stymie the christian faith. fairly by the numbers
one man black metal to be had here. some seriously ripping tracks on this tape
a couple of lesser tracks as well. the samples do not enhance the proceedings.
however dead mountain is far superior to all you pro-tool metallers trying to
score a spot at maryland death fest. another nail in god's coffin.
hauntings
'black mass graves' c-30. occult contemporary.
looking
up at a star filled sky. knowing that one day you will become one with the
majestic blackness of the night. it is futile to try and find answers. uttlerly
hopeless drone. a fucking masterpiece.
rhuith
'voormithadreth' c-30. occult contemporary.
wretched
blackened itallian hatred. buried under layers of grime and filth. it was
almost hard to tell what was going on when i pressed play. reminds me a bit of
australian black metal loner striborg. side one is gross as fuck. side two is a
little slower. get this for side one alone especially if you are into trashy
black metal racket.
morne
/ night 'split' cdr. brise-cul.
a
split featuring two relatively unknown black metal projects that are both from
the frozen wilds of quebec. morne kicks things off with a mournful candle
lighting intro and then proceeds to plow through 3 more tracks of black metal
agony. the drums are pounding. the guitars are buzzing and very sinister. the
vox are classic black metal snarls. some interesting interludes and passages in
amongs the ritual-like thrashings. night is cut from the same true kult cloth
not far removed from darkthrone. very primitive and basic but very effective
nonetheless. this isn't a reinvention of the wheel by any stretch of the
imagination but if you want some cold one man lethal black metal poison in your
life then support the underground and tell martin that gene symptoms sent you.
hail satan motherfuckers.
winters
in osaka 'molded to crawl' cd. haunted hotel records.
4
tracks on this mixed bag of sounds. winters in osaka is covering alot of ground
in a short span of time which i find most admirable. this album would make an
excellent soundtrack to a horror film. lots of grim noise. lots of cold and
near dead soundscapes. a track of zombified beats and guitar interplay. space
beckons. the graveyard beckons. there is much to hear and discover on this
disc. this gets better with each successive listen.
josh
lay 'heirophant' cd. sentient recognition archive.
a
full length excursion into gloomy dreams and endless nightmares. josh lay
understands pacing. he also understands density and depth. each and every track
is carefully crafted swampy synth breathing into you slowly yet with the sort
of purpose only understood by corpses. there are 7 separate chapters of
glorious audio doom here and none of them disappoint. the final track is the
most out of character on the whole disc with its raging feedback crackle and
anguished vocal attack [a sort of departure from what i have familiarized
myself with since discovering josh's music]. there is some serious emotional
weight in this album that you need to experience first hand. crank this up and
let it drift into your ears for it will be the catalyst of you reconsidering
what a fucking joke your life is.
vomir
/ flesh coffin 'split' cd. twilight luggage.
the
original review was too long so i will sum it up thusly: two artists. two
tracks. harsh wall noise from both. loud as fuck. if you like being blasted
into submission this is a choice release. comes in 7 inch styled sleeve. with
sticker. harsh. lifeless. meaningless. hateful.
various
artists 'the end of days' 4xcd. phage tapes.
4
artists each recieving a full length disc with which to drop their own
respective bombs. this set is enshrined in a dvd style case with booklet
letting you know whats going on. the artists included are thirteen fingers,
grizzlor, baculum, and m. payne. everyone throws some brutal harsh wall noise
at you and there isn't a goddamned thing you can do about it. baculum gets the
edge here with four tracks of plague bearing harshness that is thoroughly brain
eroding. but overall this is yet another monstrous piece of glorious death
courtesy of phage tapes. true underground label worthy of your money and
attention. dont fail.
torgeist
'time of sabbath' cd. drakkar productions.
this
band is associated with the french horde known as les legiones noire which
boasts such underground kults as vlad tepes and belketre in its ranks. while
many releases from these artists are frustratingly rare and extremely expensive
torgeist appears to be the only group whose work remains in print and at normal
prices [since writing this i have discovered that there is some stuff being
reissued or has been reissued but the prices are still pretty high although not
insane ebay collector geek prices]. upon first listen you will be assaulted by
wretchedly recorded static in the form of ham fisted black metal hymns. no
finesse just pure fucking evil praise for satan and the ruining of humanity. if
you like your black metal filthy and hateful then you have stumbled onto the
right corpse to fuck.
torgeist
'devoted to satan' cd. drakkar productions.
more
ruthless audio torture for the underground black metal fiends that litter the
globe. this album is full of knuckle dragging gloom that sounds as if it was
recorded on a boom box. dont let this description deter you from experiencing
some true hate. both torgeist albums in my collection are very short but simply
long enough for you to get a small glimpse inside the basement where this music
was clearly recorded. these fuckers make burzum sound like van halen by
comparison. absolute pummeling at god's expense.
primigenium
'intolerance' cd. drakkar productions.
2
man black metal outfit based out of madrid spain is devoted to the true black
metal cause. serious whirlwind fury is to be had here with no lives spared and
no eardrums left unfucked. musically this contains some very brutal yet
majestic guitar work that buzzes with the right sort of melancholic tones that
give this album a very powerful quality. while there are several sections where
the music slows down and takes its time this album mostly pounds away with
fervor. the vocals are more agitated than most. the guitar work is what sets
this band apart from the pack. essential listening that will drive you to hate
god more than you already do.
obscuro
'where obscurity dwells' cd. drakkar productions.
it
is my belief that drakkar productions has a superior roster of black metal
acts that are all unique in their approach all while maintaining the
fundamental traditions of the movement. here again is another 2 man project and
this time they hail from the frozen wastelands of sweden. their frostbitten
origins give their music a very morose feeling that weighs heavily across this
album. all the classic trademarks remain intact: the buzzing guitars and bass.
the militant 1-2-1-2 blast beat. the distant vocal shrieks. the extended
musical suites in betwixt hellish blasting. there is some moments where the
guitars are buzzing in a near hypnotic drone. i know how i like my black metal
and this is how i like my black metal. i dont need for bands to go for big
production in high tech studios. the older i get the more i like black metal to
stay true to its roots in the filth of past triumphs over the invisible one.
striborg
'autumnal melancholy' cd. displeased records.
this
album starts off with a very trance inducing drone that will assuredly creep
you out. this one man new zealand based project has long been one of the more
interesting ones to crop up in the last 5-6 years. the music is as to be
expected very lo fi but has a great deal of depth in the sense that you can
almost hear the spaces in between the instrumentation. much like american
counterparts such as xasthur and leviathan, striborg's music is filled with
morose dronings and suicidal longings that hang oppressively over all like a
shroud of despair. striborg is one of the leaders of the suicidal black metal
movement that relies less on pulverizing and more on creating a sense of
despair in his work. his take on nature is especially unique. find anything by
striborg and be ready to blow your fucking brains out underneath a majestic oak
tree.
striborg
'black desolate winter / depressive hibernation' cd. displeased records.
while
striborg's take on the one man black metal schematic is as grim as they come
his interludes and drones could be a project unto themselves. much like other
works by this new zealander it is full of echoey distant musings and obscured
musical incantations. one of the tracks on here clocks in at a marathon 31
minutes of pure gloom. striborg's music has strong ties to such legends as
burzum with some of the vocal shrieks and transistor radio buzz of the
recordings recalling varg's finest moments but also provides an excellent link
to some of the more experimental black metal artists of today. i cannot
recommend striborg enough.
krohm
'a world through dead eyes' cd. moribund records.
well
executed morose black metal that will please fans of leviathan and xasthur.
long extended journeys through anguish and self loathing. the music is well
recorded and serves the material well yet maintains just enough filth to keep
things dark and depressing. for krohm it is all about the gloom and doom and
less about the speed. your collection wont suffer without this album in it but
your collection could benefit greatly from owning it. great material.
willful
'procession' 3inch. small doses.
what
starts off as a fairly unassuming and shockingly quiet begining eventually
gives way to a maelstrom of blast. willful manages to bear down on you with
stealthy efficiency that will pummel you with faceless abandon then leave you
for dead. the packaging for this release is top shelf. a very worthy purchase
for you harsh wall fanatics.
emit
'a vision of 1682' tape. drakkar productions.
at
some points this tape definitely lives up to its title. while drakkar
productions is home to some of the more brutal black metal bands from across
the globe they are hardly a one trick pony. caveat emptor motherfuckers because
this isn't black metal by any stretch of the imagination. the majority of the
tape is rooted firmly in clouds of diseased orchestration from the distant past
it does start to lurch forward into some primitive musical sounds ala abruptum.
it is this material that doesnt work here and almost seems kind of dumb. the
ambient work is what really sets this band apart from the other experimental
black metal artists out there. you like creepy soundscapes then you might enjoy
this.
dyster
'fallen suicided and forgotten' tape. drakkar productions.
one
man project that is flying the flag of the black metal underground. drum
machine driven hymns to depression and suicide. tortured vocal screams and
disdainful gutteral incantations wandering through a foggy cemetary of
transistor guitar sounds. you aren't getting any revelations here but still
kult as fuck. it is projects such as dyster that are keeping the true spirit of
black metal alive. ill take this over fake showbiz bands such as cradle of
filth any fucking day
sonic
suicide squad 'with this dream death shall come' cd. snapped in half.
crazy
free form jazz that is teetering on the edge of noise but still maintaining a
very classy vibe. i was taken aback the first few seconds in not realizing that
i was about to get shocked to attention. for me being a jazz fan the weirder
the better and this is definitely weird. tenor sax / drums / and audio
manipulation that makes me wonder how out of control these dudes get in a live
setting. the second coming of 'bitches brew'? fuck if i know but this is very
very good.
sorc'henn
'gula guten' cd. snapped in half.
ritualistic
ambience from france that is full of dread and unknown. two long and extremely
dense hauntings that will be ideal for cultivating bad dreams in the dead of
night. beautifully hypnotic and hard to turn away from once you are inside. let
there be no doubt that you're going on a trip to hell. this comes with my
highest recommendations.
crystal
plummage 'elizabeth lake' cd. snapped in half.
subterranian
drones with an exquisite undercurrent of ambient movements and motions. a
single 33 minute track that will take you to the bottom and put you in a state
of stoned contemplation. snapped in half is delivering some of the absolute
best in the experimental underground and this is yet another jewel in the
crown. epic and engaging.
skeletons
out 'in remembrance of me' cd. students of decay.
an
extended piece of anxiety driven by a longing to escape a certain fate. it's
unclear what sort of gear is being utilized and who's doing what but this is
still a very deep listen nonetheless. in 36 minutes you travel to destinations
unknown and meet characters unseen. a very heavy vibe that doesn't beat you
over the head mercilessly but instead acts as a shadowy host. much pot can be
smoked to this disc.
cendres
'ungeziefer' tape. drakkar productions.
the
devil wins again. hypnotic black metal that is densely layered and
uncompromising. there is no finesse here just raw and haunted and thick with
the hissy crackle of decrepit agony. drums pounding away deliberately several
miles away. static laden guitar work that weaves in and out of focus and
provides the ghastly textures that make this tape so fucking awesome. tormented
vokill snarling and growling that is just below the closed coffin lid. there
are even a few ghost like vox thrown in for extra hackle raising. it really
doesn't get much more rough sounding and mesmerizing at the same time. true
kult magik in its purest and most suffocating form.
hiver
noir 'lethal beings music' tape. drakkar productions.
this
tape is quiet as fuck. what you get here is poorly executed black metal done by
what appears to be 2 french teenagers. the drums are all sorts of fucked up.
timing issues all over the place. one vocal is the requisite black metal troll
style and the other is a deep growl. fuck it. the music is so poorly written
and performed that this is impossible to find anything redeeming about it.
these dudes can go pound sand.
hiver
noir 'from the dead times of depression' tape. drakkar productions.
so
is this second demo from france's hiver noir any better than the first? the
recording is louder this time. their playing seems to have improved measurably
as they sound much tighter but the music lacks any sort of bite or direction.
still lo fi as fuck which is as it should be but it just doesn't work. but i
will say that this is a remarkable leap forward in terms of ability and being
able to stay in time with each other even if they are playing a bunch of
nonsense. fucking teenagers.
glass
organ 'nour' cd. students of decay.
beautifully
crafted guitar / electronics and tape
excursions that have depth and meaning. this disc is comprised of 3 tracks that
take the best of everything that i like about experimental music: the
distortion and into the red attack that crackles and hisses with each note and
adeptly crossing over into spacious non cluttered fields of pure tonality. the
guitar work is tastefully done and provides an excellent counterpoint to the
layered canvas of ghostly drones. this to me doesn't seem far removed from the
work of flying saucer attack. this is an exquisite piece of art that demands
your attention.
marble
sky 'the sad return' cd. students of decay.
lay
on the beach at sunset and let the ocean sweep you away into a sublime oblivion.
the sounds here are plotted so carefully much like a painter works with water
colors. delicate drifting obscured instrumentation that is allowed the space
and freedom to move. 4 extended tracks of drowsy yet powerful beauty. if you
are a fan of marble sky then this is a must have for your collection.
concern
'self titled'. cd. digitalis industries / iatrogenesis.
gordon
ashworth refuses to stand still in regards to his art. it's as simple as that.
there are a select few artists in the 'noise' genre that i will follow and he
is among those select few. his work is always changing and evolving. with
concern you get a chance to see an artist really step outside of himself and
make a new kind of sound. to simply lump this in with the 'noise' or 'drone'
genres would not only be incredibly foolish but grossly unfair. the three
tracks on this disc are full of dramatic moments. the instrumentation on here
is treated heavily but not heavy handed. the sound is still got just enough
street grit to keep things interesting. rather than just utilize the
instruments as traditionally intended they are made to sing in new ways that
provides you with a great vehicle to move around in. 'heartsink' could possibly
be one of the greatest things ever recorded. you know the man now hear the
music. that may sound stupid but it's a fact. cannot be recommended enough.
peter
wright 'at last a new dawn' cd. students of decay.
2
discs worth of serious drones and tones. not just a simple drone artist, peter
wright keeps things intriguing with field recordings and interludes that some
artists of the genre may otherwise not work with. his tracks take you places
without being intrusive or stupidly loud. the sounds creep up on you and the
scenery will change. smoke a shitload of weed and take a ride. a very
innovative collection of gorgeous and oppressive sound tracks for your undoing.
envenomist
/ fences 'split' 2 x 3inch. phage tapes.
i
make no secret about my love for envenomist. i always get this sort of alfred
hitchcock vibe from the frightfully sweaty and neurotic tones he exudes.
ghastly sounds eat the listener alive like a cloud of nerve gas. 3 very
deliberate very sleazy tracks of pure creepy acidic fog. fences delivers a
single 18 minute knuckle dragging bottom scraping whiff of dead bong hits.
total cemetary fog that's grim and filthy. 2 artists delivering their evilest
stuff. phage tapes delivers yet again. if you dont support this label then you
are a stupid asshole.
body
collector / droughter 'split' 2 x 3inch. phage tapes.
i
kicked off this hellish listen with body collector who knocks your dick in the
dirt with some brutal crumbly harsh wall action. deep into the track come the
angry vokills that reek of disdain at the highest level. nothing new here just
a thorough scouring of your auditory canal followed up by an enraged
browbeating from a true harsh head. droughter is fucking you up from deep
beneath the mausoleum and manages to create a sinister vibe all his own. very
grim and echoey. the sound of a casket getting drug across the floor. if burzum
did noise this is what it would sound like. lo fi blackened sleaze that will
have you jacking off on a burnt bible.
various
artists. 'brick by brick' 7 x 3inch. small doses.
holy
fucking shit what a great little package of total hatred. it really doesn't get
much bleaker than this compilation. what you get is 7 artists who over the
course of 7 separate 3 inch discs proceed to tear motherfuckers to pieces and
piss on the remains. no ambient bits. no drone. no spastic cut up bullshit.
this is deadly serious business. the artists included are: a view from nihil,
ryan bloomer, four flies, griz+zlor, infirmary, vomir, and white plague. if you
are familiar with some of these names, then you know exactly what you are gonna
get: total fucking nihilistic oblivion in the form of harsh wall noise. every
artist or project is dropping some serious heartless and remorseless hate. the
packaging is exquisite as the discs are stored in a small notebook styled case
with a pocket for each disc. a small book of liner notes is included [black on
black print....as it should be] to let you know who's who. then finally the
coup de grace: a printed manifesto from the king of wall noise death vomir. if
you like you have your skull ground down to a twitching stump and like a
perfectly packaged collection to boot then this compilation is a complete must
have. dont fuck around and sit on your thumbs jack. get with it
or get out of the way.
sparklegirl
/ hemmingway 'split' cd. dead accents.
two
seattle heavyweights coming together to confuse and abuse. sparklegirl drops a
near 15 minute epic of harsh tones and destroyed layers of noisy monolithic
crust. this to me seems like one of their best efforts since it manages to
cover alot of sonic wasteland without too much alteration of the trajectory.
extremely focused and well done. harsh noise fiends will find much to rejoice
with their track. call me slow on the draw but this is my first real extended
foray into the world of hemmingway. the sounds they produce are a very
disturbing yet interesting blend of noise and music. they never lean too far in
either direction but no matter which side of the fence they wander it always
sounds blown out and fucking weird. throughout their 5 tracks you get abducted
and treated like shit. even at their most musical there is a thick layer of
audio dirt to let you know that there will be no easy listening. a very nice
packaging job to house a great split between two seattle noise mainstays.
xasthur
'all reflections drained' 2 x cd. hydrahead industries.
one
of the big names in the u.s. black metal underground with his latest foray into
personal destruction and ruin. im certain that most of you are familiar with
malefic's particular style of morose suicidal music. all the xasthur trademarks
remain intact: the foggy recording techniques, layered guitars, distant yet
primitive drumming, mournful keyboards and pianos, and of course the grief
stricken vokills. as is customary with xasthur everything sounds sort of out of
tune or warbly but in a very unnerving way that adds an extra dimension. this
time around malefic is joined by an individual who goes by the name M.H. who
handles some vocal and musical duties. unlike his last effort 'defective
epitaph' which seemed clumsy and lacking in inspiration, this latest album
seems like a more focused return to the classic style of past albums like 'the
funeral of being'. to call what artists such as xasthur do to be merely black
metal is a stylistic misnomer which really does little to shed any light on
what it is that xasthur does. more often than not i find malefic's work to be
far outside the more rigid black metal confines. what you hear is more in line
with funeral dirges and suicidal hymnals than to the standard issue black metal
many are familiar with. the 2nd disc is some unreleased tracks from the grim
blood caked vaults of xasthur which includes a rare team up with fellow
depressed soul striborg and an autopsy cover as well. this collection is a
supreme return to form from one of the underground's true giants of blackened
music.
various
artists 'she saw her killer and felt his knife' 2 x c40. phage tapes.
4
artists taking turns grinding away at your sanity and your patience. forced
orgasm, massacre, i spit on your grave, and earhate all unload a full cassette
side of wall noise agony for you more seriously fucked up types who like to be
battered to death with catatonic rage. thematically this is a tribute of sorts
to the itallian giallo horror genre. you like harsh wall noise? then this is a
great way to get your fix. another great collection from the american
stronghold of harsh noise: phage tapes. comes with a patch and is all housed in
a nice book styled case.
vomir
'no content' 4 x c62. phage tapes.
i
love wall noise. i dont give two shits what some of the pickier noise nuts
think. i love endurance tests. i like to have my patience worked on. i like
torture. you know what vomir does: straight ahead single minded blank
nothingness in the form of a serious faceless blast of crackle and rumble. this
collection is a nonstop unchanging and unfeeling melting of the human spirit
that is spread out over the course of 4 tapes. no track titles. no information.
no mercy. no appologies. no entertainment. go fuck yourself.
here
we have a 4 cassette retrospective courtesy of phage tapes. nurse unit is / was
texas sleaze merchant richard ramirez and alison rowe. the contents of this
collection spans the years 1996 to 2000 well before such genre terms such as
'harsh wall' were part of a noise freak's lexicon. each of the four tapes is a
reissue of rare materials that were probably gone the minute they hit the
streets the first time around. many of you are probably intimately familiar
with the sort of sonic torment that ramirez and his band of sickos like to dish
out so ill spare you the frivolities. essentially what you get is some serious
gritty fucked up texas styled wall noise of varying degrees of severity. the
textures change from tape to tape so you really get a nice overview of audio
hatred. basically if you like it rough and aren't afraid to get blasted then
you will jizz a lonestar state sized load for this set.
mortal
manifest 'testimony' cdr. autumn abattoir.
i
like samples when they are done correctly. however when a majority of your disc
is comprised of long stretches of samples then i get mildly annoyed. i say this
simply because i have never heard of this artist before i recieved the disc in
the mail. his work is deeply ambient and has alot of character and power but is
disrupted by dodgy samples. it's a real shame too since the sounds the come
forth are very very good. keep an eye out for this dude in the future. has
potential for greatness.
hunting
rituals 'fabled' cdr. autumn abattoir.
while
listening i kept thinking about this would have been great sonic material for a
late 60's itallian horror movie that takes place in a sweltering ugandan
jungle. goes from a calm yet deranged creepiness to full on explosive paranoia
ridden attack. this would ruin your life if you were on the right drugs.
excellent. great sounds. great artwork. check this one out.
an
innocent young throat cutter 'schizo' c-30. throne heap.
two
sides of heinous ear wrecking torture straight from the dusty depraved hell of
texas. side one is a more late night cruiser with a more steady yet crispy wall
interlaced with a half dead siren off in the shadows. side two is a total radio
stuck between the stations while mommy gets her asshole reamed out. you know
the deal. deadly sweat soaked penetrator with pubes stuck in teeth.
werewolf
jerusalem / the rita 'collaboration collection' c-60. enemata productions.
this
is one of those just in case you missed out the first time around which can be
viewed as nothing short of a good thing for you harsh wall fiends. the
reputations of both artists are both safely at legend status simply due to
their unflinching focus and devotion to all things ear ripping. in short you
know what these psychos like to dish out. however i would like to say that this
tape shows off alot of textures and variances. from total skull scraping
blasters to the gentle sound of a burning corpse to utter burial and
suffocation. shitloads of movement all while staying true to the bleakness of
their respective endeavors. not only do you get a second chance to score up on
some stuff that has [most likely] gone way out of print but you all get a new
collab made just for this tape. you like it grim? this is grim. excellent
knuckle dragging stuff.
envenomist / hive
mind 's/t' c-40. chondritic sound.
two of my favorite
artists combining forces to deliver some truly fearsome soundscapes. to me both
individuals create the sort of work that would be fitting for cinema. this
piece really starts creeping up on you in waves that increase in anxiety and
darkness until you find yourself surrounded by synth driven gloom. the ebb and
flow is powerful and ever shifting yet leaving plenty of room for the sounds to
completely fill the space in the back of your mind. here is a definite
transcendental listen that enhances whatever experience you intend to indulge
in while listening. i would suggest a ton of bong hits before you board the
spaceship because you are going into a state of suspended animation for a long
long time. an incredible work that is tailor made for a move that doesn't exist
yet.
mx nihil 'slowly
decaying or utter widening of scraps' c-20. phage tapes.
here's a name im
not familiar with but goddamn the sounds are savage as hell. phage tapes is
fast becoming the top wall noise label in america. what you get here is
intriguing to me since the 7 tracks on this cassette are shorter which almost
runs counter to what most wall specialists do. with these shorter works you get
a very good overview of the sort of gritty brutality that mx nihil seems to
indulge in. lots of textural changes and shifts but clearly with a fine ear
tuned in for only the harshest of the harsh. mx nihil seems to understand the
idea of making things move and evolve within the confines of the wall style.
this is a thoroughly solid listen and i will definitely be on the lookout for
more from mx nihil.
solitary
hunter / mark lord 'split' c-12. callow god.
initially
with the solitary hunter piece what begins as music quickly degenerates and
becomes a very intense musical seizure. while it is completely fragmented it
manages to maintain a delicate innocence and dare i say catchiness. mark lord
delivers two pieces that could easily be viewed as opposite sides to the same
coin. electronic ambient pop gives way to a harsh yet broken piece full of
rapid fire blasts of puzzled stabbings. interesting material from both artists.
dried up corpse /
droughter 'split' c-30. heavy psych.
dig up the
cemetery using nothing but the power of suggestion. dried up corpse proceeds to
dredge up some thick negativity in the form of a napalm laden wall of shit.
heavy yet sleazy hatred that will torment your ears and peel the skin off your
bones. brutal grimey and catastrophic. i swear there's some vokills buried deep
down in the mix but honestly it doesn't fucking matter. droughter turns on the
heat and lets you sautee in piss. before long things start getting seriously
hairy as the vokills come out in rancid doses of feedback and static. in
between the verbal floggings is a layer of fog that never goes away and
deliberately becomes harsh primitive hailstorm of filth. black noise to the
very motherfucking core. thorough hate all the way around. get this split and
then tell your friends goodbye cuz you are fucking done.
droughter 'by
force of arms' c-10. heavy psych.
ten minutes two
tracks of all out lo-fi brutality from droughter. an enraged shaking middle
finger in your face of total violence. thick murky crunch crumble and decay
accompanied by diseased feedback and venomous vokill action. step inside a blackened
minefield of pure sonic id. this is the way.
g.w.a. 'floor
songs' c-18. callow god.
gordon ashworth
never ceases to amaze me with the incredible range he exhibits in his work. it
is his varied interests that make for such interesting experiences when i
listen to any one of his projects. the refusal to stand still is a testament to
an artist at his best. what you will experience with 'floor songs' is a side to
the man that i dont think people see enough of. incredibly introspective songs
that manage to combine his musical experiments with his forays into field
recordings and drone experiments. take all this and his interesting habit of
collecting instruments of all types and you have a powerful three song
collection that will stimulate the those who appreciate a good sincere
instrumental. the experimental nature on display is true and well thought out
and has the d.i.y. ethos stamped all over it. my highest recommendations go to
this tape. this will shatter everything that you know about this dudes work.
drenches 'swastika
girls' c-30. heavy psych.
thick buzzed out
drunken repetitious waves of disdainful tones. rhythmic thrusting of sleazy
cock into unwashed pussyhole. frequencies and waves manipulated in almost
zombie like fashion yet the dirt never washes off. someone is gonna get
buttfucked to death tonite motherfuckers is the message being subliminally
nailed into my ears. such crusty broken down hate that it's making my stomach
feel funny like i need to pass a 25 mile long turd with glass in it. there are
no good times to be had here. this is what susan atkins hears in her head all
the time especially now since she has brain cancer.
holy fucking shit.
this is so much to try and take in that it makes my head spin.1036 songs of
pure trashy itallian grind / blur violence. this spans the years of 1986 to
1993 and is the most beautifully packaged collection that i have seen in a long
fucking time. every disc comes with a booklet and there is also a large booklet
that includes interviews, lyrics, and photos. this has all the demo tapes that
were released along with tracks from various side projects and rehearsal
sessions. there is a ton of unreleased noise core for you to attempt to navigate. if you like
completely hate fueled grind then a better and more thorough collection will
not be found.
everyday
loneliness 'appropriation' 2 x c18. callow god.
morose droney
songs that will leave you pondering whatever it is that bothers you. just the
right amount of basement recording grit to accompany the pilled out loneliness
of the musical escapades played on worn out antique instruments. this would
make david lynch's jaw drop due to the sheer weirdness. the piano sounds
captured here are so desolate and lost that it gives me chills. the
atmospherics creep out of every hiding place. this is a must have collection of
genuinely haunting beauty. depression at its finest.
